The Ship Be Sinking

Mouth Almighty

Celtics vs. Cavs, Game 6

For the first time, I think there’s a real chance that LeBron is leaving the Cavs. That team looked broken tonight, panicky, unable to adjust, badly coached, and with no one really at the helm. Some of that is on LeBron and his many turnovers (and some occasional ghosting), but a lot of it is on the rest of the mooks from Cleveland. And this is probably the best they can ever be, bar some magic from a coaching change; from here on out, they just get older and slower and more expensive, and LeBron himself is probably the only serious rotation player on that team who stands a chance of being better 2 years from now than he is today. If he stays at this point his loyalty is commendable, but he’s effectively condemning himself to basketball irrelevance for the next few years, and possibly for the life of the contract.

July is going to be fascinating.

  1. First NBA game I’ve watched in years. Swift can attest to my Twitter feed blowing up all throughout the game. And while some of the blame comes from the coach and the supporting cast, LeBron never once the entire game stepped up and took charge. Never once tried. Every “great player” or “best player in the league” in the past put up back-to-back stinkers. They never looked afraid to touch the ball, never looked afraid to seize the moment. LeBron did last night.

At this point, comparisons to him need to be less from Jordan/Magic and more from Malone/Vince Carter.

  2. For someone who said that the fans shouldn’t be concerned because LeBron is on the team, not a great performance.
