The Ship Be Sinking

Mouth Almighty

Eliot Marshall Released

You know why they call guys like Vladimir Matyushenko gatekeepers? Because if you lose to them, the gate closes and you’re on the outside looking in. There’s a weeping and a wailing about this one, but I am not impressed. If you have boring fights and no forward career momentum after losing in your first very gentle step up fight, why would UFC ever keep you around? On the off hand chance that Marshall gets good in 2 or 3 years (unlikely; he’s 29) the UFC still has a good chance of re-signing him as the dominant promotion, so why not let him work for Generic Local MMA Promotion and get paid by them in the interim? UFC has only so many slots, and with the ever-increasing talent pool in this sport guys like Eliot Marshall who are decent but boring with limited upside just aren’t a priority.
