The Ship Be Sinking

Mouth Almighty

Depressing Dan Rafael is depressing.

I don’t blame the man since he’s reporting the facts, but good God is that a depressing read. It can be summarized as “three quarters of the fights you want to see aren’t going to happen anytime soon, mostly over money.” I get the sense that after several very strong years boxing is lowly heading back to the dark period when HBO and Showtime couldn’t get out of each others’ way, Top Rank and Golden Boy were refusing to work together, half the fights out there seemed to have inexplicable invisible walls blocking them from happening mostly due to Byzantine backroom power games between eminence grise manager-types, and the whole sport was like a textbook example of the tragedy of the commons. I hope I’m wrong about this, but yeah. Roy Jones vs. Bernard Hopkins, $50.
