The Ship Be Sinking

Mouth Almighty

FTR

Lopez and Gamboa SHOULD win tonight, of course. But Steve Luevano is the kind of perpetually under-rated solid-at-everything guy who, given the right gameplan, could just plain out-box Lopez; and with Gamboa’s chin and Mtagwa’s rugged bring-it-every-round style, well…these are a pair of good fights. Despite all the bullhonkey happening in the sport, it’s nice to see HBO kicking the year off right. Probably more about this later.

  1. I went to the fights, and man, those were two great performances. Non-hardcore fans will not forget Gamboa’s name (even if they can’t pronounce his first name) after that stoppage of Mtagwa…even if Mtagwa was tailor-made for Gamboa.

JuanMa’s performance was more impressive just because of the quality of Luevano.

Outside of Pacquiao-Mayweather and Mayweather-Mosley, I think a JuanMa-Gamboa fight is the best pound-4-pound fight in the sport right now. It reminds me of when Morales and Barrera fought…two sub-30 year olds meeting in their primes.

I ABSOLUTELY CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS FIGHT!!!

  2. Any chance you can get word of this to the Bobfather? he’s talking about holding it off for a year plus.

I intend to write more on this, but I’m insanely sick right now.
