The Ship Be Sinking

Mouth Almighty

Statistical Perspective

Entering this season, by basketball-reference.com’s numbers, there had been exactly 12 seasons in league history dating back to the 1960’s of a player posting a PER greater than 30. The best ever was Wilt Chamberlain at 31.84 in ’62-’63.

So far this season 3 players are posting a PER above 30: Dwyane Wade at 31.26, Chris paul at 31.46, and LeBron James at 32.74, which would be the best mark ever on this metric if it holds up. Obviously PER isn’t an infallible measure by any means, but nevertheless, I think it’s clear we’re seeing something historic here.
